There’s no reason you can’t bring your game face along with you wherever you go. Be it for fun with family or friends or a bit more serious, Coquitlam is ready for you with world class fields and facilities.
Coquitlam plays host to everything from regional sporting events to international competitions. We have a variety of sports fields and courts throughout the city that are available for leisure, recreation or organized sports.
Town Centre Park is a destination site for sports, recreation and leisure, home to Percy Perry Stadium. Sports fields include four lit synthetic turf sports fields and warm-up area, two grass sports fields, and sports courts for roller hockey, basketball, baseball, volleyball and tennis.
Not only is it fun and inexpensive, but it’s an activity the entire family can play. The game – sometimes referred to as frisbee golf – is played much like traditional golf, although instead of a ball and clubs, you throw a disc. The object is to reach each basket (or hole) in the fewest number of throws. Coquitlam’s 400-acre Mundy Park hosts a free nine-hole disc golf course located near Spani Pool at 655 Hillcrest St. Nets are on site as permanent targets. Round up some friends, pack your discs and drop by to give it a try.
Conquer Metro Vancouver’s largest climbing gym. Whether you’re new to climbing or a seasoned veteran, ClimbBase5 is a great place to learn or hone your skills. ClimbBase5 offers 16,000 square feet of climbing space, a 1,000 square-foot ‘Tsunami Wall’ for bouldering and custom programs for kids, groups and adults.
The game is experiencing a rebirth, with a younger generation discovering the fun. Whether you’re a college student or a retiree, this sport is a social activity that you can play at a recreational or competitive level. The Coquitlam Lawn Bowling Club is nestled in a spectacular setting, featuring a natural grass green and clubhouse. Members of the public are invited to give the game a try – at no cost (Club is open from April to September). If you catch the bowling bug, you can sign up as a member to take part in any of the drop-in bowling sessions, tournaments, and social events.
Pack your ball and paddles for a game of table tennis – with a view. Simply drop in to use the sturdy free outdoor tables or opt for a game of foosball. You’ll find them at Town Centre Park outside Percy Perry Stadium.
The great thing about tennis is that all skill levels can give it a try – and Coquitlam’s outdoor courts are free to use. Whether you’re just learning your swing, a friend is in the mood for a playful rally or fierce competitors are channeling your inner Milos Raonic or Genie Bouchard, all you need are a couple of rackets and a ball. Coquitlam’s City parks are home to 10 outdoor courts. Want to keep your game sharp year round? The Tennis Centre Coquitlam offers five indoor hard courts conveniently located in Central Coquitlam.
How would you like to search for a hidden treasure? Coquitlam’s parks are riddled with geocaches (hidden containers) and all you need is a cell phone or GPS tracking device to join in this outdoor hunt. Maillardville has a great collection of caches hidden around, giving you a chance to explore and discover the francophone history of the neighbourhood.
